WINSLOW/ORFORDVILLE - Vernita Elizabeth Bartelt, age 93, formerly of Winslow, died on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Collinwood Elder Care, Orfordville, where she has been a resident since 2006.

Vernita was born April 2, 1920, in Winslow, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Rose) Leverington. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1938, then taught piano lessons and directed the Winslow Band for a few years.

She married Lawrence Bartelt on November 24, 1943 in Elizabeth, IL. They farmed most of their married life in the Lena-Winslow, Illinois area.

She is survived by her granddaughter Carrie (Sean) Swanson of Beloit; daughter-in-law Cherie Bartelt of Belvidere; and niece Doris Rodebaugh of Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons Larry and David; sisters Virginia Weigle and Halene Groom, and brother Nevin Leverington.

Funeral services will be at McConnell United Methodist Church, McConnell, IL at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, with the Reverend Doosoo Lee officiating. Burial will be in Rock Lily Cemetery, Winslow, Illinois.
