Sigrid Evelyn Bratrud, age 96 of Blanchardville, presently at the New Glarus Home, died on January 2, 2018 at the New Glarus Home, surrounded by family. She was born on April 18, 1921 in Bagn Valdres Norway, the daughter of Hermman and Kjerstine (Thorsrud) Bratterud. She attended school in Norway and belonged to the Bagn Church. At the age of 18 Sigrid was married on December 8, 1939 to Harold Bratrud at the Bagn Church in Norway. They came to America in May of 1947. Sigrid farmed with Harold in Norway and in the Argyle/Blanchardville area until 1967 when they moved to Blanchardville. She was a member of the Adams Lutheran Church and Women of the ELCA, the Sons of Norway, the Valdres Sanband, and the Adams Homemakers. Sigrid had many talents including knitting, growing flowers, quilting, and handy crafts of all kinds, but her most enjoyable work was making Norwegian costumes for dolls. She also took much pride in the alter cloth, lectern cover and pulpit cover she made for her church in Adams which had burned and the new church erected. Many hours were required to do the Hardanger stitching. This was her gift to the congregation.

Sigrid is survived by her daughter, Anna Marie (Kampfer) Emberson of Blanchardville; five grandchildren, James Kampfer of Verona, Skott Kampfer of Blanchardville, Jeffery Emberson of San Antonio, Texas, Dale (Patty) Emberson of Argyle and Mark (Rebecca Doran) Emberson of Blanchardville; 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Sigrid is the last of seven siblings. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Harold who died on August 21, 1994.

Sigrid will be sadly missed by all. The family expresses a special thanks to the staff at the New Glarus Nursing Home for all the great care she received from all.
