Shirley M. Bronkema, 91 years old, of Freeport, formerly of Stockton, IL, died Sunday, February 3, 2008 at FMH Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 11, 1917 in Albany, IL, a daughter of Maurice and Alice (Paddock) Drury. She married John J. Bronkema on Dec. 31, 1934 in Albany. They farmed in Whiteside, Jo Daviess, Carroll, and Stephenson Counties.

She enjoyed being a mother, homemaker, cooking, gardening and quilting.

She is survived by eleven children: Lyle (Molly) Bronkema of Clinton, IA, Maurice (Patricia) Bronkema of Forreston, Wayne (Mary) Bronkema of Pearl City, Alice (Robert) Geissberger of Freeport, Wilma Hiteman of Freeport, Paul (Evelyn) Bronkema of Stockton, Faye (Fredrick) Scheider of Freeport, Evelyn (Dennis) Elmer of Dakota, Merle (Marie) Bronkema of Pearl City, Diane (Lavern) Akins of South Wayne, WI, and Cheryl Bronkema of Freeport.

She is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 7, 1993; one great- grand-child; two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2008 at Schwarz Chapel, 608 South Park Blvd., in Freeport, with Pastor Mike Jones of Wesley United Methodist Church in Stockton officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel.
