Richard A. Zumkehr, age 73, of rural Monroe, died Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the New Glarus Home. He was born in Monroe, on May 20, 1944, the son of Arnold and Florence (Mann) Zumkehr. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1962. He also went to U.W. Madison short course for Cheese Making.

Richard and Shirley (Mohns) were united in marriage in 1964 at EUB.

He was employed with Pleasant Valley Cheese Factory for 25 years with his father Arnold, then Moore Business Forms for 35 years and later worked for Frank Brothers Trucking and farmed in rural Monroe since 1980.

He enjoyed flying his 1972 Cessna; but his greatest joy was spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of rural Monroe, daughter, Lori (Hal) Hulbert of Texas, sons, Kevin (Lisa) Zumkehr of Edgerton, Robert Zumkehr of Monroe; sister, Bonnie (Craig) Sauey of Baraboo; former son-in-law, Steve Zuhoski, grandchildren: Garrett and Nick (Lacy) Zuhoski, Bradley (Kelley) and Nicole (Tevor) Zumkehr, Cody and Brittney (Jake) Armstrong; great-grandchild, Olive Zuhoski; nephews, Brett Sauey and Chad (Tara) Sauey and children; sisters-in-law, Betty Silkworth and Phyllis (Tom) Stine.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert Zumkehr.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello, with Rev. Lance Smith officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 14th, from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE Funeral Home.
