Rex A. Garde Sr., 90, of Edgerton, WI, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 in his home surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer.

He was born March 17, 1918 in Footville, WI, the son of Arthur and Susan Clark Garde. Rex was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army 10th Armored Division and the 11th US Horse Calvary. He married Mary McCormick on May 31, 1944 in St. Jude Catholic Church. She predeceased him on September 18, 1987. He then married Vivian (Schroeder) Strickler on February 10, 1990 in De Forest, WI. She predeceased him on November 24, 1998. Rex married his present wife, Connie Tobin, on February 27, 2004 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Edgerton, WI.

Rex was employed as a Supervisor by the Beloit Corporation for 36 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Edgerton, WI and a charter member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Beloit, WI. Rex was also a 4th Degree Member of Msgr. Joseph E. Hanz Assembly #1209, Knights of Columbus St. Thomas Council #605 and the Beloit Corporation Quarter Century Club.

Survivors include his loving wife, Connie Tobin Garde of Edgerton, WI; two sons, Dr. Joseph (Jean) Garde of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Rex Garde Jr. or Beloit, WI; daughter, Katherine Dahl of Madison, WI; five granddaughters, Alycia, Tonya, Erin, Jenny and Sara; three grandsons, Jim, Ryan and Sean; eight great-grandchildren; five stepchildren, Jim (Pat) Tobin, Diane (Dean) Dorn, Virginia (Greg) Wallisch, Chris (Rick) Humphrey, Julie (Brian) Merwin; twelve step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; son, Edward Garde; grandson, Roger Dahl; brothers, Gordon and Roger Garde; five sisters, Fern, Vera, Mary, Betty and Marlene.

The family would like to thank the HospiceCare, Inc. for their special care to Rex, especially Kathy Van Veldhuesin for her loving care.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Rd., Beloit, WI with Father Gary Krahenbuhl and Father William Vernon concelebrating. Entombment will be in Mount Thabor Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI with a scripture service at 5 p.m.

Memorials may be given in Rex's name to the HospiceCare, Inc.
