Michael A. Wells, age 50 of Gratiot, died on Sunday, March 23, 2008. He was born on June 23, 1957, the son of Clifford "Cooky" and Jean (Greier) Wells. Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member and president of the LaFayette County Alliance Conservation Club and a member of the Gratiot Sportsman's Club. Mike thoroughly enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Canada and "Turkey Camp" with friends at "The Point." He loved living in Wisconsin and enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and weekend Harley rides throughout the state. Mike was an employee of Swiss Colony for the past 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey of 31 years of Gratiot; daughter, December (Ray) Deal of San Diego, CA, Halie (Keith) Helfvogt of Argyle; brothers, Tony (Rita) Wells of Browntown, Dennis (Phyllis) Wells of Gratiot; sister, Mary (Denny) Harris of McFarland; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Markus Meier) Hartwig, Brenda (Kevin) Doyle; brother-in-law, Dale Graham; several nieces and nephews; along with 2 great-nieces. He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Wiota Lutheran Church. Co-officiating will be the Rev. Sara Gillespie of Wiota Lutheran Church and the Rev. David Busker of Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be at a later date at the Gratiot Methodist Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Mike's memory.
Mike cherished the time he spent with his family and friends and lived each day to the fullest, and therefore will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
