Marvin A. Wells, age 83 of Monroe, died on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at University Hospital in Madison. He was born on December 31, 1929 in Fairfield, IA the son of Esmond and Evangie (Collier) Wells. Marvin and Carol Cross were married on March 24, 1957 in Fairfield, Iowa.
Marvin graduated from Stockport High School and Parsons College in Fairfield, IA with a bachelor of science degree in Business.
Marvin served in the U.S. Air Force from January 1951 - December 1954.
Marvin was a salesman in the agriculture field for 23 years and later worked at Pick N' Save for 17 1/2 years. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Monroe, V.F.W. Post #3999 in Flora, IL, American Legion Zilmer Riley post #84; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Monroe, sons, Kurt of Argyle, Kevin (Chris) of Monroe; grandchildren, Logan and Corey Wells; brothers, Donald (Glenda) of St. Louis, Mo; Charlie (Janice ) of Sun City West, AZ; Larry ( Karen ) of Des Moines, IA; David (Connie) of Fairfield, IA; sisters, Pauline Kaplan of Tucson, AZ; Esther Schwerin of Burlington, IA; and sister-in-law Lucy Wells of Durant, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James, Andy and Henry in infancy.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at United Methodist Church 2227 - 4th Street in Monroe, with Rev. Pat Soddy and Rev. Randy Booth officiating. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church or Behring Senior Center. Shriner- Hager-Gohlke funeral home is assisting the family.
