Loraine Horn died on Oct. 10, 2008.
Loraine was born 29 October 1911 in the log family farm home to Fred & Alma (Schwerman) Miller at Greenfield Township, Milwaukee County. She was known as Tuddy, Mutz, Chief and at Elm Dale Country School as "Loraine Miller mit die Rote Backen" or Loraine Miller with the rosy red cheeks.
Teaching and family were her passions. She graduated from Bay View High School and what is now called UW-M. She enjoyed giving demonstrations in 4-H. On 29 August 1936 she married Robert Horn who also attended Elm Dale School.
Loraine taught many years in the Greenfield School System. At one point in her career she taught full time to 30 students, did all the housework and cared for her aged father and father-in-law. She and Robert owned property in Green County and spent much time there. Two grandchildren live in Green County.
Loraine didn't have many hobbies but in later years she was able to travel to Europe and Australia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, granddaughter Kathy Ripley and brothers: Robert, William & Donald Miller.
Survivers include son Richard (Sandra) Brooklyn, daughter Dr. Peggy Horn Higgins (TJ), Canberra, Australia, Grandchildren: Douglas (Jessica) Horn, Brooklyn, Eileen Horn (Patrick O'Brien) New Glarus and six great grandchildren.
