Karen D. Bandi, 72, of Machesney Park, passed away on May 2, 2016. Karen was born on June 16, 1943 in Rockford, the daughter of Hugo Olson and Bernice (Stenglein) Olson. Karen graduated from Rockford East High School in 1961. She married Robert Bandi on November 10, 1973 at Alpine Lutheran Church in Rockford. Karen was a 52 year member of Sons of Norway; a member of the German Society of Rockford; National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association; Women's Auxiliary of American Legion Post 1207; New World Swiss Club (Turner Hall) in Monroe, WI; and Moose Lodge 754 in Monroe, WI.

Karen will be remembered for her love of life and caring for family members. She loved her many travels to Green County for polka fests, Cheese Days in Monroe, and the many events with Sons of Norway. She loved cheering for the Cubs (maybe this year) and was more than a super Green Bay Packers fan.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Alexander Bandi; brother, Arden (Donna) Stenglein; stepbrother, Roger (Peggy) Swing; many step cousins and several cousins-in-law. She is predeceased by her parents; stepfather, Lars Swing; and grandparents in Sweden.

Services will be held on May 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, 925 5th Ave., Rockford, IL with Reverend Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. in the church. Private family burial in Monticello, WI. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
