DARLINGTON - Joyce I. Walker, age 80, passed away on February 6, 2008 at the Lafayette County Manor in Darlington, WI. She was born December 20, 1927 in Freeport, IL, to Alfred and Lucille S. (Lohr) Moen. She married Warren C. Walker on February 27, 1951 in Mt. Carroll, IL. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1980.

She is a 1946 graduate of Balboa High School Balboa, Panama Canal Zone, Panama. She graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 as an RN. She farmed with her husband in the Warren and Apple River area while raising her family. They moved to Dakota, IL and farmed in that area until moving to Rockford, IL in 1954. Joyce worked at St. Anthony Hospital as an RN. They moved back to Apple River, IL in 1962 to the family farm. She worked at the Lafayette County Manor from 1969-1976 and then went to work at St. Claire Hospital until retiring in 1980. She was a member of Women of the Moose in Freeport, IL, Lafayette County 4-H leader for the Dunbarton 4-H Club, past president of the Shullsburg PTA, past president of the State of Wisconsin PTA, president and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a six degree member of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry of State Grange of Illinois. She attended the Apple River Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Steven (Mary Kay) Walker of Janesville, WI, Tom (Diane) Walker of Gratiot, WI and Mark (Cindy) Walker of Janesville, WI; one daughter, Delane (David) Potter of Middleton, WI; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one uncle, Delbert (Lida) Lohr of Freeport, IL; two sisters-in-law, Trudy Penticoff of Harlingen, TX and Dorothy Hewes of La Mesa, CA; and one brother-in-law, Art (Doris) Walker of Anchorage, AK.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. till time of service. Officiating will be Rev. Margo Peterson. Internment will be held at West Ella Highland Cemetery, Apple River, IL. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
