James W. Hamilton, age 92, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of West Chester, PA died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hamilton was born on December 4, 1925 in Waco, TX, the son of the late Mabel L. and James W. Hamilton, II. James grew up in Monroe, WI and while attending high school enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. Following his military tenure he began his formal education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was a 1949 graduate. He later earned his MBA from Northeastern University. He also held professional designations as a CPCU and CLU. James worked in the insurance profession for 38 years, retiring as the Vice President/Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Society. Following his retirement he continued to share his experience and knowledge as the MBA Director for West Chester University. He was a founding member of the American Revolution Round Table-SC, Past President of the Civil War Round Table, and member of the Sun City Vets.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hamilton who passed away in 1965, and his brothers, William and John Hamilton. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Anne Hamilton; children, Anne Morey (David); sisters, Maria Luchsinger, Susan Loeffel (Harvey) who raised Anne with their sons Thomas and Mark Loeffel; stepson John Etherton, stepdaughter Margaret Houtmann (John); four grandchildren; and his granddaughter, Caroline Morey who was inspired by her grandfather to become an International Business major.
A Celebration of Jim's Life will take place from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Hidden Cypress Golf Club in Sun City, Bluffton, SC.
