BRODHEAD - James I. Williams, age 73, of Monroe, formerly of Brodhead, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. He was born on May 19, 1934 in Cadiz Township, Green County, the son of Ira and Iva (Wolfe) Williams. He married Claire Pierce on July 2, 1960 at St. Rose Catholic Church, Brodhead. She passed away on May 30, 1992.
Jim owned and operated Pierce True Value Hardware of Brodhead for 40 plus years. He was very active in the Brodhead community, including the Brodhead Foundation, Park Board, Bid Board, and the Planning Commission. He was a past member of the Green County Board of Supervisors and was active with the Wisconsin Retail Hardware Association. Jim also served in the United States Army.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas Williams, Brodhead, Daniel (Stephanie Scholl) Williams, with the U.S. Air Force in Landscheid, Germany; a daughter, Patricia Williams, Madison, WI; three sisters, Janet Thompson, Monroe, Doris (Rick Wellens) Knezel, Arvada, CO, Mary (Craig) Berken, Green Bay, WI; two brothers, Norman (Lorraine) Williams, Monroe, Allen (Mary) Williams, Janesville; and a sister-in-law, Betty Williams, Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Curtis in 1965; and a brother, David in 1980.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Brodhead, with Father Michael Moon presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD. A memorial will be established in his name.
