MANCHESTER, IOWA - Harold S. Ott, 84, of Manchester, formerly of Marion, died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, following a long illness. Masonic Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa. Burial: Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, Wisconsin.

Harold's family includes his wife, Elaine Ott of Manchester; two children, Becky (Steve) Lindaman of Charles City and Craig (Susan) Ott of Lebanon, Tennessee; one step-grandson, Will Steigall; and a sister, Darlene (Harlan) Smith of Waunakee, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harold was born June 15, 1923, the son of Anton I. and Hulda (Ingold) Ott, in Postville, Wisconsin. He graduated from Monticello High School, Monticello Wisconsin in 1941. He married Elaine Ann Beckman on September 30, 1951 in Monroe, Wisconsin. Harold farmed for the Stauffacher Brothers Farm in Monticello, Wisconsin. He moved to Marion, Iowa, in 1959 and worked as a herdsman on Wittwer Dairy for 10 years until 1969 when they moved to McGowan Blvd. in Marion, where they lived for 34 years. Harold worked as a custodian at Bowman Woods School (Linn-Mar District) for 22 years, retiring in 1991, thereafter, moving to Lake Delhi in 2003.

Harold was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion and a 50-year member of the New Glarus, Wisconsin Masonic Lodge #155. Harold enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe. He liked collecting stamps and "being Swiss." Bowman Woods School holds a special place in Harold's heart.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Harold's name.
