Gordon C. "Corky" Mohns

Gordon C. "Corky" Mohns, age 80 of Twin Grove, Wisconsin, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Woods Crossing in Brodhead following a brief illness. He was born March 12, 1930 at Brodhead, WI, the son of Robert O. and Mildred (Stalhacker) Mohns and attended Twin Grove Country School and Monroe High School.

Gordon entered the U.S. Army January 4, 1951, at Milwaukee, WI, helped build the bridge across the Rhine River in Germany, and was discharged December 29, 1952 at Ft. Custer, MI as a Corporal. He received the Army Occupation Metal for Germany.

Gordon and Carol J. Rear were married June 19, 1955 at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe. Corky owned & operated Mohns Truck Line from 1942 to 1964 and from 1964 to 2010 was co-owner & operator with his wife of Twin Grove Lumber & Supply, Inc. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Smith Masonic Lodge #31, York Rites Commandary, Madison Zor Shrine Temple, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #754, Cecil Jones VFW Post #2312, Monroe Lions Club, Sons of Norway, & Wisconsin Retail Lumberman's Association. Corky enjoyed hunting, fishing, all things outdoors, sports, working, his cottage, and all his grandchildren's sports related activities.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Mohns of Twin Grove, WI; children, Debra (Luis) Hernandez of Gig Harbor, WA, Jeffrey (Raquel) Mohns of Albuquerque, NM, & James (Jennifer) Mohns of Brodhead, WI; grandchildren, Mariah, Carly, Kyra, & Aidan; and special pet dog, Clayton Marshall Redwood. He was predeceased by his Parents; brother, Marion Mohns; and sister, Kathryn "Katie" Peck.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe with Military Rites.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Avenue in Monroe with a Masonic service at 7:30 P.M.
