Glen E. Kortmann, age 85, of the Argyle area, died on Friday, May 21, 2010, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. He was born on September 26, 1924, in Stephenson County, Illinois, the son of Elmer and Martha (Maas) Kortmann. He entered the U.S. Army and served during W.W. II, in the Normandy Invasion, Battle of the Bulge and other European battles. Glen and Dorothy Wells were married on October 1, 1950, at the Monroe United Brethren Church. He was a cheesemaker at the Buena Vista Cheese Factory, the Forreston, McConnell, Bidlingmeier and Isley Cheese Factories, finishing in Argyle, at the Argyle Dairy. He later worked for Argyle Industries for 17 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the McConnell American Legion Post No. 1225, the Cecil Jones V.F.W. Post No. 2312, the Cooties Puptent No.14 and the Last Man's Club, also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 754.

Surviving is his wife, Dorothy for almost 60 years; daughters, Beverly (Harvey) Goepfert of Monroe, Diane (Rick) Butler of Argyle; grandchildren, Julie (Dan) Verscharge, Tammy Goepfert, Heather (James) Coffey and Jennifer Butler; great-grandchildren, Kyler Smith and Kayla Paulson. He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Dan Bohlman, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. Graveside military rites will be accorded. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in Glen's memory.
