Gary R. Holcomb, age 61 of Monticello, passed away Sunday evening, May 18, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Gary was born August 24, 1946, to Robert and Viola (Wirth) Holcomb. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1963 and from Madison Business College in 1966. He moved to California where he worked as an accountant and met his future wife Lily Ciotta. They married in 1984 after relocating to the Denver area.
Gary loved shooting pool, playing cards, and spending quality time with his family and friends.
Shortly after the passing of his father, Gary returned to Monticello to care for his mother until her death. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Scot Luchsinger, and a brother-in-law, Don Garske.
Gary will be sadly missed by his loving family, including his wife Lily; two step-sons, Roger (Diana) and Tony Ciotta; three step-grandchildren, Mark, Megan, and Jennifer; three sisters, Nancy Luchsinger, Pat Garske, and Shelly Johnson; a brother, Dennis Holcomb; a very special sister-in-law, Diane Holcomb; and six nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Washington Reformation United Church of Christ, rural Monticello, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 23 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the VOEGELI-NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 360 S. Garfield St., Monticello.
