Emma M. Berndt, age 93, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Country Care Adult Family Home. She was born on July 25, 1923 in Freeport, IL the daughter of Ernest and Anna (Grossenbacher) Hegi and graduated from Brodhead High School.
Emma and Hilton Berndt were united on May 24, 1943 in Brodhead.
Emma was employed at Frito Lay for 10 years and was a cook for the Monroe High School for 20 years.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed baking and cooking.
She is survived by her son, Marion (Lillian) Berndt of Monroe, 3 grandchildren: Curtis (Tracy) Berndt, Kevin (Brenda) Berndt, both of Monroe and Chad Berndt of San Jose, CA; 3 great-grandchildren: Carley, Brooke and Faythe Berndt; sister, Frances (Joe) Williams of Brodhead.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Hilton, daughter, Judith Durgin, brothers, Bob, Walt and Leonard Hegi, sisters, Kathleen Anderson, Marie Hanson, and Evelyn Figi.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from Friday, October 28th, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
