Clarence Floyd Asmus, age 68 of Monroe, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at his home. Clarence was born August 14, 1941 in Monroe, the son of Floyd W. and Cynthia L. (Hughs) Asmus. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1959 and from U.W. Madison with a bachelor of science degree in 1965. Clarence and Margit Johnson were married on September 11, 1970 in Madison. He graduated from U.W. Madison Law School in 1972. Clarence was employed by a firm in Kaukauna, WI until returning to Monroe in 1975 to pursue his passion for the law and raising hogs. In 1976 he joined the law firm of Benkert and Spielman which merged with Brennan Stiel in 1988. Clarence retired in October, 2006, but continued to work as a mediator for Green County.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Green County Bar Association, and Green County Pork Producers.

He is survived by his wife, Margit Asmus of Monroe; three children, Brian Asmus, Liana Asmus, and Amy Asmus, all of Madison; and a brother, Lawrence J. (Donna) Asmus of San Bernadino, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010, at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, with Reverend Gretchen Sylvester officiating. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Memorials may be given in Clarence's name to Monroe Clinic Hospice.
