PECATONICA, IL - Charlotte E. Kinney, 90, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was born April 5, 1919 in Stephenson County, IL, the daughter of Oyd C. and Lottie D. (Kramer) Rockey. Charlotte married Anthony W. Kinney on May 9, 1942. He predeceased her on August 5, 1999. Charlotte worked for JC Penney of Rockford, then in Austin and San Antonio, TX, while traveling with Anthony during his time in the Army. She also worked at Fairbanks Morse in Beloit and Beloit Newspaper. She retired June 30, 1981, after 16 years as clerical supervisor for Illinois State Police, District 16. She loved to fish and play a game of cards, and thoroughly enjoyed her long life. Her faith gave her strength to help support those who were unable to do so themselves. She was a witty, independent woman throughout all her 90 years and a faithful friend to those who knew her. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pecatonica.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mrs. Gilbert (Barbara) Rockey of Juda, WI; nieces, Barbara Anderson, Roberta (Raymond) Hutting, both of Pecatonica, Shirley Doner of Oregon, Cindy (Claire Jr.) Campbell of Monroe, WI, Patricia (Ray) Stevens of Rockford; nephews, Roy (Kathy) Rockey of Orangeville, Carlos (Sharon) Rockey of Machesney Park, Mickey (Terri) Rockey of Juda, WI; several great nieces and nephews, and great-great- nieces and nephews. Special long life friends, John and Joanne Mullen, and Katie Lee, and many dear friends.
Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Anthony; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Russel (Kathryn) Rockey, Clifford (Georgia) Rockey, Roger Rockey, and Gilbert Rockey.
A Prayer Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Kenneth L. Countryman Funeral Home with a Funeral Mass following at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Pecatonica, with Monsignor Robert Sweeney officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Kenneth L Countryman Funeral Home, 118 E. Fifth St., Pecatonica, IL with a Scripture Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Pecatonica.
Memorials to several of the charities Charlotte supported. (River Bluff Aux, Dakota Indian Schools and Catholic Charities, Disabled Veterans, Rockford Rescue Mission, and others.) Scholarships in honor of Loretta Kinney and Mary McDonald to be given.
