Alice L. Ubersox, age 61 of Darlington, WI, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 19, 1950, in Dodgeville, WI, the daughter of John and Mildred (Wagner) Stauffacher. Alice lived in the Darlington area all of her life. She graduated from Darlington High School in 1968. Alice was united in marriage to Richard Ubersox on May 30, 1968, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington. In 1991, she earned her associates degree in Accounting from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, where she was awarded the prestigious title of star ambassador. Alice farmed with her husband, Rick, in the Shullsburg and Belmont areas until moving to the Stauffacher Family Farm in Willow Springs Township in 1993. Along with farming Alice also worked for several accounting companies as well as at Mr. T's Convenience Store in Dodgeville where she was well known as the friendliest cashier. In 1998, she found her dream job at the USDA Farm Service Agency starting as a temp and worked her way into the position of Farm Loan Analyst.
Alice is survived by her husband: Rick at home; her mother: Mildred of Darlington; five children: Michael Ubersox of Platteville, WI, Timothy (Tanya) Ubersox of Darlington, Sara (John) Gleason of Shullsburg, WI, Matthew (Jolene) Ubersox of Darlington, and Ann (Jared) Reuter of Belmont, WI; 14 grandchildren: Alysa and Ayden Ubersox, Richard, Lance, and Kolbe Ubersox, Maggie, Janie, and Lauren Gleason, and Taylor, McKenzie, Abigail, Elizabeth, Rose, and Claire Reuter; her mother-in-law: Lois Ubersox of Gratiot, WI; four brothers: Stephen (Holly) Stauffacher of Madison, WI, William (Bebe) Stauffacher of Anchorage, AK, Charles Stauffacher of Fort Myers, FL, and Mark (Kristine) Stauffacher of Elroy, WI; one sister-in-law: Gale (Ken) Wilson of Lancaster, WI; and two brothers-in-law: James (Cindy) Ubersox of Warren, IL and Hal (Sherry) Ubersox of Shullsburg. She was preceded in death by her father: John; one brother: Jack Stauffacher; and two grandchildren: Jordan Ubersox and Parker Reuter.
Alice was a very active member of Immanuel United Church of Christ. She served as past president for the church council and Women's Guild. Alice was a past Sunday school teacher and bell choir director. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Alice always was more willing to give than receive which stood true until the end.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 339 East Louisa Street in Darlington with Stephen Stauffacher and Rev. Dr. Connie Peake co-officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church and on Sunday, October 16, 2011, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
