Albert Alvin Schuetz, age 95, of Monroe, died on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at his home in the loving care of his family & Joyce's Home Care Staff. Albert was born in rural Gratiot, on October 9, 1922, the youngest child of Swiss immigrant dairy farmers, Jakob Schuetz, Sr. (1870-1959) and Elsie (Tschannen) Schuetz, (1882-1972).
In 1925, the family moved to a farm west of Monroe in Clarno Township where Albert learned the Christian Faith and to become a successful farmer. Albert attended Liberty School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1939. At his mother's urging, he attended the UW Farm and Industry Short Course. He farmed with brother, Walter and his sister-in-law, Katherine until Walter's untimely death in January 1963.
Albert and Ena Mae Maeder were married at St. John's United Church of Christ by Rev. Paul Olm on April 20, 1963. They farmed together until retiring in 1989.
Albert was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the Franklin Cheese Co-op. He and Ena were also members of a neighborhood square dancing group.
In retirement he and Ena rode their bikes on area trails, visited many of Wisconsin's State Parks, and went to auctions, where he enjoyed visiting with people. Albert was a very conscientious farmer taking care of his land and livestock. He especially enjoyed working with the horses on the farm. He had a friendly, patient and kind nature and enjoyed volunteering his time and help to others. He also enjoyed cutting wood, tinkering in the shop, building bird houses and fixing bicycles.
Albert's life and memories will be lovingly carried on by his devoted wife of 54 years, Ena, his loving daughters, Julie Ann (Allen) Eells of Janesville and Amy Dawn (Matthew) Williams of Beloit, and beloved grandson, Jakob Tyler Williams, of Beloit. He is also survived by several nieces, grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; in-laws, Herman and Julia A. Maeder; brothers, William A. (Edna M.), Jacob F. Jr. (Edna E.), Walter O. (Katherine), and Thomas J. (Ida); sisters, Clara E. (Arnold) Albright, Lillian (Joseph) Gmur and Helen Schuetz at age 6; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertrude M. (Daniel) Leiby, and Johnny (Alice) Maeder; a niece and nephew in infancy; niece, Karen (Lee) Montgomery, and nephew, Alvin Gmur; many cousins, friends and neighbors.
We want to thank Joyce's Home Care and Monroe Clinic Hospice for their care of Albert. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship is being established.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ with Rev. Kathleen Rinear officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Hawthorne Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 30th from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
