MONROE - Four children were checked by Monroe EMS for minor injuries, after a Head Start school bus carrying 16 children and one teacher's aide collided with a vehicle at an intersection on Monroe's south side.

The bus, operated by Dianne M. Herbst, 57, Gratiot, was westbound on 20th Street crossing an uncontrolled intersection at 12th Avenue when it collided with an automobile operated by Beth A. Jarosz, 41, Monroe.

Four boys - ages 7, 10, 11 and 14 - all of Monroe, were checked by Monroe EMS for injuries, but none were transported for treatment. No other injuries were reported from the other bus occupants, and neither driver reported injuries at the scene.

Both vehicles sustained moderate to severe damage, and the bus was able to continue on to school. No citations were issued at the scene; the incident remains under investigation.
