TOWN OF JORDAN - A Mineral Point woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon, Jan. 17. It is the first death on Green County roads in 2025.
According to a press release from Green County Sheriff Cody Kanable, the accident happened just before 12:45 p.m. in the W7800 block of Wis. 81 in the Town of Jordan.
The Green County Sheriff's Office Communication Center received a 911 call reporting the accident, which was approximately 7.5 miles northwest of Monroe. Deputies immediately responded to the scene along with the Browntown Fire Department, Monroe Rural Fire Department and Green County EMS.
According to Kanable, preliminary investigation determined that a westbound sport utility vehicle, operated by a 16-year-old male from Monroe, failed to yield while making a left turn into a driveway, operating in the path of an eastbound car. That car was operated by a 71-year-old female from Benton. A passenger in the car was identified as a 33-year-old female from Mineral Point. All occupants of the two vehicles were transported to SSM Monroe Emergency Department for injuries sustained in the crash. The 33-year-old was then flown by Med Flight to UW Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The 16-year old male and 71-year-old female sustained non-life threatening injuries. T
"The names of those involved are being withheld at this time," Kanable said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they deal with this loss of a loved one."
In the accident, the car sustained severe front end damage. The airbags were deployed and the occupants were both wearing seat belts. The SUV sustained severe passenger side damage and the airbags deployed. The driver was also wearing his seatbelt. Wis. 81 was closed for approximately 90 minutes during the investigation.
