FREEPORT — A single vehicle crash claimed the life of a Freeport woman March 7.

At approximately 11:41 p.m., a 2000 Jeep Patriot driven by Katelin Croffoot, 26 of Freeport, was eastbound on Stephenson Street Road west of Bolton Road in rural Stephenson County. A preliminary investigation by the Illinois State Police said Croffoot went off the road, struck a ditch, became airborne and then struck a tree. 

Croffoot was transported to an area hospital and later flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died at the hospital.
