MONROE — The SSM Health Monroe Hospital Operating Room Team is celebrating the successful launch of new Da Vinci Xi technology. On the first day, the team completed five surgeries that included four scheduled procedures and an add on.

Launching new technology like this robot requires extensive preparations by multiple teams as they completed learning modules, did dry runs, determined new standard processes and various other preparation work.

The Da Vinci Xi will be utilized by General Surgery, Gynecology and Urology for various procedures such as hernia repair, gallbladder removal, hysterectomies and diagnostic surgery, prostate removal and kidney surgery.

The new robot is unique in its ability to move over the patient with greater flexibility and ease of use through increased interaction with the OR surgical table. Da Vinci Xi allows the surgeon to perform multiple different locations surgeries because of the greater flexibility and targeting of anatomy from the same incisions.

“The overall process of operating the robot has been improved,” explained Jennifer Smith, SSM Health Monroe Hospital Operating Room & Sterile Processing Coach. “There are enhanced safety features for staff and the patient and greater efficiencies allowing us to perform more surgeries.”
