WESTON — Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) will close out the 2023 calendar year with its State Bowling Tournament Dec. 2-3 at Dale’s Weston Lanes in suburban Wausau. For the second straight year, this will be the largest-ever bowling tournament hosted by Special Olympics Wisconsin.
More than 1,000 qualifiers from all corners of the state who placed first, second, or third within their respective Regional League play are eligible to advance to the State competition. Athletes can compete in singles, doubles, team, and/or ramp competition over the two-day slate. Unified Doubles and Unified Team competition will also take place on Sunday.
The SOWI Health Team will also provide hands-on screenings and activities throughout the weekend. The trio of Healthy Athletes disciplines MedFest (sports physicals), Healthy Hearing (hearing screenings), and Special Smiles (dental screenings) will take place on Saturday, while Performance Station will he held on Sunday.
Volunteers for the event are still needed — great for families, students, sports teams, youth and community service clubs, businesses seeking outreach opportunities, and more. Volunteer Online Registration is open through Friday, Dec. 1, and walk-up volunteers are welcome throughout the weekend.
