Special Olympics recruiting for new bball team

MONROE - Green County Special Olympics Agency 6-15 announced the formation of a competitive basketball team. The agency is recruiting 12 athletes for this first season.

The plan for the initial year is to instruct the athletes as to the rules of competitive basketball. The Green County travel team will complete in games against Region 6 teams such as Belleville/New Glarus, Stoughton and Monona Grove. The group expects to participate in the 2012 Region 6 District Tournament at the MAC Sport Center in Verona on Sunday, March 4.

Practice is on Sunday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Monroe Middle School, 1510 13th St., with public scrimmage at 5 p.m. most Sundays.

The group is in need of regulation uniforms. All basketball practice equipment required to establish a program will be purchased.
