Rainfall simulator to be used for field day event

The rainfall simulator helps people see and understand the connection between residue and how soil management practices influence water infiltration or runoff from the land. The June 18 field day east of Monticello will also host a discussion on earthworms in an agricultural system and a chance to see a soil pit and the secrets below ground.

MONTICELLO — The Farmers of the Sugar River will be hosting an event from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18 at the Feller Farm, W4064 County C, Monticello. The public and all farmers are welcome to attend. 

At this event, there will be a rain simulator showing the difference between rain infiltration and runoff on different soil management systems. In addition to the rainfall simulator, there will be discussion on earthworms in an agriculture system led by Dane Elmquist, conservation outreach specialist. Jamie Patton, NRCS soil health coordinator and soil scientist will discuss the soil pit dug into crop ground.
