NEW GLARUS — Three New Glarus teachers were recently informed that they achieved National Board Certification, one of the teaching profession’s highest marks of achievement.

National Board Certification is a rigorous performance-based and peer-reviewed process that requires teachers to demonstrate proven impact on student learning and achievement. It typically takes at least one to two years for teachers to complete all four of the components, including: a written assessment of content knowledge and pedagogical practices; a portfolio of student work samples that demonstrate students’ growth over time; video recordings of interactions between the teacher and his/her students; and reflection papers explaining how the teacher uses assessments and collaboration to advance students’ learning and growth.

Kari Hedeman and Josie Wieser achieved certification in the category of generalist/early childhood, and Lexa Speth achieved certification in the category of social studies-history/early adolescence.
