Cheesemakers, Raiders, Cards heating up, closing in on titles

WHITEWATER — With dual wins over Whitewater and East Troy on Monday, April 22, both Monroe squads improve to 4-0 in league duals ahead of the Rock Valley-Valley meet on Tuesday, April 30. If the Cheesemakers can finish second or better, they’d secure at least a share of the conference title.

Standout performances from the Whitewater double dual include Aleigh Zettle winning the 200-meter dash (29.00) and pole vault (10-00). For the boys, Kaden Kuester won both the 110-meter hurdles (16.10), 300-meter hurdles (43.10), long jump (20-00.50) and triple jump (43-00). The boys also swept the relays. Peyton Herbst won both the shot put (40-11) and discus (122-04).


BRODHEAD-JUDA & EDGERTON DUAL

EDGERTON — The Cardinals enter the Rock Valley-Rock meet on Tuesday, April 30 on a high note, having defeated the Crimson Tide in a dual on Tuesday, April 23. 

The boys found their greatest success in relays, winning all but the 4x400, in which they did not enter a team.

Stella Arn, Olivia Hartwig and Addison Yates won two events each — Arn the 100-meter dash (12.30) and 200-meter dash (26.6); Hartwig with 400-meter dash (1:07.30) and the 800-meter run (2:58.20); and Yates the high jump (5-0) and long jump (16-02.50).


CAPITOL CONFERENCE TRIANGULAR

MARSHALL — Following results from the Capitol Conference Triangular on Tuesday, April 23, Sugar River boys and girls improve to 3-0 in South duals. If the Raiders pick up another dual win in Waterloo, they would become Capitol South Dual champions.

Jack Erickson won three events, including the 100-meter dash (12.00), 200-meter dash (23.14) and 300-meter hurdles (42.50). Alora Spiegel was the top female performer, winning both the 800-meter run (2:44.21) and 1,600-meter run (5:49.51).


SWAL MIDSEASON MEET

MUSCODA — Darlington participated in the SWAL Midseason meet on Tuesday, April 23. The event was a preview of the conference meet on Monday, May 13, which will determine the league champion.

On the boys side, Marcus Kendall won the 800-meter run (2:16.00) and Danick Haesler the 110-meter hurdles (17.59). For the girls, the squad of Adalee Berget, Brianna Vazquez, Alexis Murray and Raquel Reuter won the 4X200 relay (1:58.80).


DARLINGTON INVITE

DARLINGTON — Three records were broken by local athletes in the Darlington Invite on Monday, April 22.

Albany’s Bryce Hughes won the long jump with a leap of 21-02.50. That mark beat Belmont’s John Keyes, who lept 21-02.50 in 2003. Hughes also won the 200-meter dash (24.37) and high jump (6-00).

Darlington’s Adalee Berget won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:23.10. Her pace beat that of Argyle-Pecatonica’s Elise Sigg, who ran a 5:31.10 in 2009.

Argyle-Pecatonica’s Anna Tisch won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.66. She bested BSMS Emma Lawrence’s time of 48.22, set in 2017. Tisch also won the long jump (14-08.50).

Other notable performances of the meet included wins from Black Hawk’s Lane Marty in the 110-meter hurdles (17.14) and 300-meter hurdles (43.36). Darlington’s Alyza Johnson also won multiple events, including the 100-meter dash (14.10) and 200-meter dash (27.83).


RIVER RIDGE MEET

PATCH GROVE — For the first time in program history, the Monticello girls track team took third in a meet (61 points). Low numbers have plagued the Ponies in the past, but this season depth has led to some success.

Kennadee Johnson accumulated 16 points. She took second in the 800-meter run (2:53.08, 6 points) and the high jump (4-06, 6 points). Johnson also finished third in the pole vault (7-00, 4 points).

Danica Altman scored the second-most points (14), winning the triple jump (28-00.50, 6 points). She also took third in the 100-meter hurdles (20.52, 4 points) and the long jump (12-09.50, 4 points). 

The Monticello boys took fifth of five teams. Alex Roe accounted for all 14 points. He won the long jump (17-10.50, 8 points) took third in the 100-meter dash (13.14, 4 points) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (26.72, 2 points).
