MTG offers art classes for children starting in Feb.

MONROE - Monroe Theatre Guild has several art classes for children starting mid-February.

n Learning to Draw - Animals is for children ages 5 to 7. This is a beginning drawing class for junior artists. It will be a structured drawing lesson on using simple shapes to create many different animals, and develops the hand-eye coordination necessary for good drawing skills. The class is offered at two times: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 or from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19. The instructor is Suzanne Miller; the cost is $6 for MTG members or $7 for non-members.

n Lions, Tigers and Bears (Oh My!) is for children ages 8 to 10. The class will enhance the skills of budding artists by doing some structured drawing using a variety of mediums. It is offered at two times: from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 or from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 19. The instructor is Suzanne Miller; cost is $10 for MTG members and $12 for non-members.

n Munchkin Masterpieces is for ages 3 to 5, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Little people and their grown-up helper will get messy, creative and inspired in this class. Participants will learn how paint flows, blends and mixes to create new colors. A variety of techniques will be used to create abstract art worth framing. Old clothes or paint smocks a must. There are four classes: 9 to 9:30 a.m. Fridays, Feb. 18, Feb. 25, March 4 and March 11. The instructor is Nikki Cooper; cost is $14 for MTG members and $16 for non-members.
