MONTICELLO - Six Monticello FFA members showed dairy cattle and five students displayed swine for the chapter during the Green County Fair, held from Wednesday to Sunday.

The Dairy Youth Recognition Auction is an opportunity for some of the best dairy exhibitors to get recognized monetarily with their projects.

Dairy exhibitors for Monticello FFA included Paige Dilley, Cory Bauman, Ryan Smith, Bryce Pence, Emilie Gietzel and Brianna Roesslein. Dilley was the first Monticello FFA member who earned the right to show at the Dairy Youth Recognition Auction by winning the senior showmanship class for dairy cattle on Wednesday. The award recognizes her as being the top showman/woman for exhibitors in grades 10 through 13-plus and allowed her to be exhibited in the Master Showmanship Contest on Saturday. Dilley also earned first- and second-place recognition for her registered Holsteins and another first place with her registered Jersey heifer.

Bauman earned first- and second-place honors showing grade Holsteins with his grade cow, earning the supreme senior championship for grade animals. The achievement allowed Bauman to compete in the Dairy Youth Recognition Auction. Bauman also had two fourth-place ribbons for field crops and a first-place ribbon in mechanical science with a 4-wheeler cart he fabricated, qualifying him for the Wisconsin State Fair.

Smith also qualified during the Dairy Youth Recognition Auction. His registered Holstein cow earned supreme senior champion for the registered show, and he earned additional first-, second- and third-place rankings for his other registered Holstein heifer calves.

With Smith's registered cow and Bauman's grade cow, the top two senior animals (cows) were from the Monticello FFA.

Pence earned second place showing his registered Brown Swiss yearling and fourth place in Dairy Showmanship. Gietzel earned first place in dairy showmanship for grade 10 exhibitors and first and second place for her registered Brown Swiss yearlings. Roesslein earned first and second place showing grade cattle and fourth place in dairy showmanship.

Swine exhibitors included Hallie Chicker, Max Chicker, Riley Costa-Spohn, Brittany Disch and Kody Spohn. Hallie won her class, earning two first places showing market barrows and another first place in swine showmanship for grade 11 exhibitors. Max also won his class, receiving two first places with his crossbred market barrows and a second place in swine showmanship.

Other results included: Costa-Spohn received third and fourth place for market barrows and third place for swine showmanship; Disch received two second places in market barrows and second place in swine showmanship; and Spohn received third place in market barrows.
