Monroe: City Band concert is July 4 in band shell

MONROE - Friday, July 4, the Monroe City Band will present its annual patriotic free public concert at 8 p.m. in the Twining Park bandshell prior to the fireworks.

As usual, the program will open with the Star Spangled Banner. Other tunes to be included in the concert are Southwest Saga by Robert Sheldon; American Riversongs, a folksong setting for band, by Pierre La Plante; a Tribute to Stephen Foster, a medley, as arranged by Sammy Nestico; Marching Down Broadway, a medley arranged by John Moss; Shenandoah, by Frank Ticheli; Armed Forces Salute, a medley' and a Disneyland Celebration, a medley as arranged by Michael Brown.

Other tunes to complete the program are Benny Goodman: The King of Swing, a medley arranged by Paul Murtha; and The Stars and Stripes Forever, a march, by John Philip Sousa, edited and interpreted by William D. Revelli. Mary Gafner will be the Mistress of Ceremonies. Speaker for the evening is Assemblyman Brett Davis. The Monroe Fire Department will present the flag. Director of the band is Randy Schneeberger.

The next free public concert will be at 8 p.m. Monday, July 14, in the Twining Park bandshell.
