MONROE - The Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Committee received the Friends of the National Rifle Association grant in the amount of $5,474 this year. Equipment and supplies for various disciplines were purchased with grant money in order to grow the Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Program. Green County 4-H Shooting Sports provides safe instruction for members in the disciplines of archery, air rifle, shotgun and .22 rifle. In 2008, with the help of the grant money, air pistol was started. Grant monies were split between the disciplines according to needs and wants of each of the certified leaders of the various discipline areas.

The goal of the Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Program is to provide programs for youth to learn how to handle and properly shoot the bows and guns. Members have fun and if interested, have the opportunity to compete with others in Wisconsin, as well as at National Events, in a positive manner. With the NRA Grant monies, equipment was purchased to aid in short-term and long-term future plans for the program.

Since its inception, The NRA Foundation, Inc., has funded more than 15,000 grants totaling over $100 million, becoming America's leading charitable organization in support of shooting sports. The NRA Foundation continues to expand its efforts to fund a variety of programs in communities across the nation. Through its support of local clubs, law enforcement agencies, youth organizations, hunting and conservation groups, teachers, school children and civic associations, the foundation reaches out to meet the needs of Americans everywhere. This past year marks Wisconsin Friends of NRA's total to date in excess of $1.3 million in grant funding to various important causes.
