Green County Genealogical Society Sept. 7 meeting
Community Brief

MONROE — On Sept. 7, the Green County Genealogical Society (GCGS) will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. in the Monroe Public Library meeting room on the second floor.

This month’s feature is “Ellis Island: A Brief History, Including the Immigration Process” by Jean Lythgoe.

Lythgoe has found interesting information about the island and the name changes over the years. Her presentation will include a brief history of the island, as a point of immigration entry, the history of immigration into the United States and places where people can search for more information.

Lythgoe has worked in the Local History and Genealogy Room of the Rockford Public Library since 2006. She attended local schools and received her Bachelor of General Studies from Northern Illinois University in December of 1983. She has been interested in family history since childhood and local history a little later. Lythgoe considers herself a generalist, because one never knows what the next question will be.

For any questions about the meeting or presentation, call Donna at 608-921-1537. The GCGS Research Center, located in the lower level of the Monroe Public Library, is open to the public for research Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Other times are available by appointment. The phone number is 608-328-7436 and the website is www.greencogenealogywi.org.
