MONROE — On Wednesday, Sept. 25, Green County Farm Bureau hosted its 6th annual Rural Safety Day at the Green County Fairgrounds. This was its biggest year yet, with over 400 Green County 5th grade students and teachers joining for the day. Schools present included Monroe, Juda, Monticello, New Glarus, Belleville and Brodhead.
Rural Safety Day invites 5th graders from all school districts in Green County to learn about safety from experts in their field. This year, the stations consisted of: Skidloader Safety; Animal Safety; ATV/UTV Safety; Electrical Safety; Tractor/Equipment/PTO Safety; Chemical Safety; Trailer/Lawnmower Safety; Grain Bin Safety; Fire Safety; and Drone Safety. Additionally, Green County EMS joined them for a “How to Stop the Bleed” station, Green County Health Dept. addressed the risks of vaping at its station, while a Green County Sheriff and K-9 made an appearance with a drug search demonstration. Students rotated through all the stations throughout the day, each lasting roughly 20 minutes.
