MONROE — At The Bean Haus, not only can you bring in your coffee cup and fill up on your favorite roast, but you can also bring your dog.
Monroe native Brandi Camron decided a coffee shop was just what the Square needed. She was also inspired to make it pet-friendly by the coffee shops she has visited in Colorado.
“We’re working on just getting back to the beans,” Camron said. “We’re also working with home bakers. We want to support local people and goods as much as we can.”
Camron, who also works for St. John’s Church, has spent the last year getting The Bean Haus ready to open. She received immense help from family and friends with repainting and renovating. She also decided to close her previous shop in Evansville, to focus on the new location in Monroe.
Camron wasn’t always the coffee lover she is today. It wasn’t until her husband challenged her to try some of his favorite coffee that she was blown away.
“I’ve been hooked ever since,” Camron said.
The coffee shop sells a variety of coffee, including coffee from the Badger Bros and Kicking Horse Coffee. All of the beans they use in their coffee are fair trade. Camron said quality is her main initiative.
“We want to be known for having the best coffee in town,” Camron said. “We take our time and make sure everyone has a good cup of coffee.”
In addition to her dogs Duke, Daisy and Sophie, her friend Rebecca Medley of Rockford helps her out at the shop.
While Medley assists with the coffee, she’s also excited to get moving with her own business venture “The Enchanted Haus.” She’ll be using a room in the back of the coffee shop to do spiritual readings as a psychic, or medium. Medley said she thinks Monroe is perfect and is considering eventually relocating to the city.

“It’s a super cute town and the people are really friendly,” Medley said.
Camron said she really enjoys being a part of the community. She has several roasts, including Costa Rican and Rwandan, and even offers CBD coffee. Customers can also join their coffee club for an annual fee, which includes a tasting of the coffee of the month and coffee for a dollar.
Eventually, Camron hopes to have game and open mic nights to give people a place to hang out at night who don’t want to drink alcohol.
The Bean Haus opened its doors May 31. Camron said they’ve received a lot of positive feedback from customers, especially regarding their hours, which are 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
