Student's work on display at library

OSHKOSH - Artwork by Monroe Middle School student Brad Brausen will be on display at the Oshkosh Public Museum until Aug. 14, as one of the winners of the 2011 Helen Farnsworth Mears statewide art contest.

Brausen placed third in the Class A Painting/Drawing (2-D) division, with his piece titled "I Really Like My Vegetables." Class A represents students who have entered under the direction of a certified art instructor.

The annual contest - open to all seventh and eighth graders in Wisconsin, whether taught in public, parochial or home schools - passes artwork through a series of three evaluations, at the local, district and state levels, before the winning pieces are selected.

Quilt club plans trip to fiber museum

MONROE - The Courthaus Quilt Club will host a bus trip to the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts, Cedarburg, Wednesday, Oct. 5. The featured art will be silk painted quilt.

The trip will leave at 8 a.m. and return at approximately 4:30 p.m.

There will be time during the trip for shopping, and lunch is the responsibility of each attendee.

'Remember' poker run set for Aug. 6

STOCKTON - The third annual "Ride To Remember" Poker Run will take place Saturday, Aug. 6, rain or shine, in Stockton.

The annual event is to honor the memory of Stockton's hometown military heroes, Sgt. Andrew "Andy" Lancaster and Pfc. Devin Michel, who both died in the line of duty and to show continued support and gratitude to those who are serving and those who have served, organizers said in a release.

The full-day event will start with registration from 9 to 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall, Front Avenue, downtown Stockton. All vehicles are welcome.

The Poker Run will consists of eight stops, with The Corner Tap hosting the late afternoon and evening fun. All vehicles must be back in by 6 p.m. to participate in the Best Poker Hand.

Other activities include a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction consisting of items donated by local and area businesses.

All proceeds will be donated to Operation Support Our Troops - Illinois, Stockton VFW and the future Stockton's Veteran Memorial.

The registration fee is $15 per person, with a free T-shirt to the first 100 registrants.
