Fore Father's ride set for July 30

JUDA - The fifth annual Juda Fore Father's Memorial Ride will be Saturday, July 30, with pre-registration being held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 29 at Last Chance Saloon, W2894 County KS, Juda.

A pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Juda Fire Department, will serve from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Juda Community Center. Cost for the breakfast is $6 per person, and children 4 and under eat free.

After the breakfast, at noon, the ride will depart from Last Chance Saloon. From noon to 7 p.m., a chicken dinner will be served. Cost for the dinner is $8 in advance or $9 at the door.

Additionally, there will live and silent auctions, bike games, and a DJ at Last Chance Saloon. A kids dance will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Juda Fire Station.

Proceeds from the day's events will go to benefit local community projects and Green County charities. For more information, call (608) 558-7447.

Teams participate in judging contest

MARSHFIELD - The 2011 State Land Judging Contest was held July 12 in Marathon County, during Farm Technology Days, with 20 FFA chapters participating in the contest.

Local teams that participated were from Monroe, Monticello and Pecatonica.

The top five teams were Cassville, Kickapoo, Riverdale, Monticello and Potosi.

The top five qualified to participate in the National Land Judging Contest, which will be held in Oklahoma in May 2012.

The members of the Monticello team that qualified are Derek Gilbertson, Luke Kolasch, Evan Schultz and Aaron Hefty. The Monroe team placed ninth and Pecatonica came in 11th.

Top individuals from the area were Travis Gilson (fourth), Pecatonica, Aaron Hefty (ninth), Monticello, Luke Kolasch (13th), Monticello, and Mark Jenson (14th), Monroe.
