Belated blossoms to the Green County Harmony Chorus >for the excellent show at the PAC on March 14. Also to Judy Bennett, >Monroe High School chorus director, for being the "spark plug" that organized the youthful addition of high school students known as Adamz Applez. They provided a welcome addition to the show, and show much promise with their entertaining style. We anxiously await seeing them soon again. - A charter member of the Harmony Chorus>
A barb to The Monroe Times >for not having any pictures of the pet look-a-like contest for the Humane Society. That was a good event for them, and for it to be an annual event it needs to be in the paper. Our paper is practically nothing to read or look at. I know myself I would like to see the winners of the contest in your paper. You all did such a good job in dressing up. A blossom to you and your dogs. >Also would have liked to have known how many dogs the Humane Society had in the parade? Just wondering! - Jean Gille, Monroe>
Editor's Note: This barb was received before a photo of the contest winners was published on the Community page in the Thursday, March 26, edition.>
My wife and I would like to give Sen. Russ Feingold a blossom >for holding a listening session in Green County on March 21 for the 17th year in a row, which he also does with every county in the state each year. The meeting was well attended and very appropriately held in a room of a commercial bank. A lot of questions were asked about the big bonuses AIG got and just how corrupt the hedge funds were and the toxic derivatives they were pushing. I told the senator that the hedge fund dealers were running their industry with excess profits, like the payday loans, and that they should be taxed, and as high as 90 percent. I saw on ABC News that the top 25 hedge fund managers got $11.6 billion last year. It would be nice if President Obama could get the billionaires to pay their fair share. - Mr. and Mrs. La Vern Isely, Monroe>
A blossom for the Monroe Clinic emergency room personnel and the intensive care unit >that cared for my wife in her recent accident. - Keith Ginner, Monroe>
A blossom for the Monroe Police officers and EMS personnel >who responded to the fatal accident that happened to my wife. Their excellent care and compassion will always be remembered. The people of Monroe and Green County should support these dedicated personnel in any way possible. - Keith Ginner, Monroe>
I would like to give a blossom to the staff of the Monroe Clinic Pharmacy. >They are always very friendly and professional, and always go the extra mile to serve the customers' needs. - Steve Mihina, Monroe>
A huge blossom to the Monroe Fire Department >for parading the Monroe boys basketball team back into town on Saturday night. Many thanks! Another blossom to Father Thomas Campion, >who continually inspires our kids while keeping their egos in check. We sure missed him on Saturday. A third blossom to the great Monroe fan base >including the band, cheerleaders, dance team, WEKZ and Gary Johnson, the Monroe Times and all the community members that cheered throughout the year and this weekend! A heartfelt blossom to our fellow basketball parent group, >who we are blessed to call friends! And a final blossom to Coach Pat Murphy, Coach Brian Bassett and Coach Ken Gratz, >who encourage and challenge the boys to not only be successful basketball players but also outstanding young men. Many, many thanks! - Jerry and Renee Tordoff>
The blossoms to the GCHS board should actually go to the volunteers> who put on the parade. The volunteers are the people that should receive all of the credit for their hard work and dedication, and for doing all they can to help the animals. - Samantha Tyler
A big blossom to the Monroe School Board >for voting to remove early release days from the 2009-2010 school year. These days can be very hectic for working parents! I'm a stay-at-home mom, and it's hard enough on me! Good job Monroe School Board! - Michele>
A blossom to any new members who join GCHS. >There seems to be a lot of rumblings about the GCHS. From what I am reading, there are valid reasons for the average citizen of Green County to question what the board is doing, and whether it falls within their bylaws and the will of the community. I would like to hear more and plan on asking plenty of questions. If something is going on, then the public will eventually find out. I will be joining as a member so that I will have a say in these matters. The public should be aware, if they don't already here's a reminder: Anyone who is a member can vote. To be a member it costs $25 a year per person, and it's tax-deductible. You can still become a member now and vote at the annual meeting on May 7 at Ludlow Mansion. Any questions you have can be addressed at this meeting, as you have a right to the floor, and then you can vote for who you think should actually be on the board. And if there are board members who really don't belong there, you can raise your concerns of those, too. Your vote could ultimately put a new member on the board in place of one of four running for re-election. As a member, you have a right to the floor and can address any questions you have, and that's important. Get involved! - Tom >
A barb to our Monroe school district superintendent and his administration.> Since when do you need an $85,000-a-year "teacher coach"? Aren't the teachers we hire qualified to teach? If this position is necessary, then why have a principal for each school? I hope the school board takes a long, hard look at this and also renews our high school band instructor contract! - A Monroe school district resident>
