Each day on the front page, the Times gives readers a preview of whats coming in the next days newspaper. We call it our Whats Next? feature a sentence about two different things we will have in tomorrows paper.
We also have a daily Whats Up feature, which highlights two events coming up in the area. They can be fund raisers, chicken dinners or important government meetings. Usually, they are scheduled in the next day or two.
Both features caused me a little grief on Tuesday.
The Whats Next decisions can be a little tricky for us. While we can plan for whats going to be in the next days paper for a day next week, for that matter things can change, and often do. Stories fall through, or get held. Events get canceled. I do my best to make sure the story were previewing for the next day actually will appear in the next days newspaper. Most of the days Im right. Some days, like Tuesday, Im wrong.
We previewed a story about enrollment in the 4-year-old kindergarten program in the Monroe school district. It was scheduled to be on the Life page in Wednesdays edition. But the story wasnt ready to run, and was rescheduled for Saturday. That could always change, too. So if you were looking for that story in todays edition, I apologize.
Now, to our Whats Up mishap Tuesday.
It being late February, the community calendar of events is a little sparse. I had to go two days out, to Thursday, to find an event to highlight in Whats Up. Unfortunately, the events I chose had just been rescheduled too late to change in the Community page calendar that had been finished the afternoon before.
So I hope you see this, and todays paper, in time to rearrange your plans for attending the Junior Optimist Clubs spaghetti dinner at the Monroe Middle School and the MMS musical in the auditorium that follows. They have been rescheduled, due to concerns about practice times being cut short by the recent weather interruptions. The musical Once on This Island, Jr., now will be performed at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7. The spaghetti dinner will be before the Thursday performance, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
