SUN PRAIRIE - The Monroe boys soccer team rested several players and lost the regular season finale to Division 1 power Sun Prairie 6-0 Thursday, Oct. 10.

Monroe (7-12-1, 2-4 Badger South) started three freshmen.

"We benched some kids with injuries because we wanted them to get a rest before the playoffs and we knew this would be a tough game," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "It was a good experience for the younger guys."

Monroe junior Kevin Noriega didn't play because of a knee injury. Senior Taylor Teasdale didn't play in the second half because of a back injury and the Cheesemakers kept senior Matt Hodgson out for the second half.

"Taylor said he will be OK for the playoffs," Vasquez said. "We just wanted to be sure. Matt has been battling some injuries, but he doesn't want to tell us because he doesn't like to come out of the game."

Monroe junior goalkeeper Austin Murphy had seven saves.

Monroe will open WIAA Division 3 regional play at Delavan-Darien at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15.
