Six take part in WFCA All-Star Games

OSHKOSH — Monroe running back Tyler Matley and quarterback Max Golembiewski both saw action in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association’s large school senior all-star game July 17 at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh. 

The North won 7-0, with the lone score coming on a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown by Damon Loker of Kimberly, who picked off a pass from Golembiewski with 10:34 left in game.

Golembiewski was 3-for-8 passing for 11 yards with two interceptions. He had one carry for a negative yard. Matley had a 2-yard loss in his lone rushing attempt. Both former Cheesemakers will be teammates again this fall, playing at Loras College in Dubuque.

The entire game was a defensive battle, with the North collecting just 138 yards of offense on 53 plays. The South had just 74 yards on 46 plays, including just 15 yards rushing on 23 combined carries.

In the small school game, the North won 17-14. 

New Glarus quarterback Darris Schuett was 5 of 11 passing with a touchdown, and added 30 yards rushing on nine carries. Glarner Knights teammate Nathan Streiff caught four passes for 37 yards. Konner Knauf of Edgerton had five catches for 58 yards and two TDs. Lake Mills QB Adam Moen was 10 of 17 for 87 yards with a TD and INT for the South. He added 37 rushing yards on 10 carries. 

The North outgained the South in yardage 216-199. 

Black Hawk-Warren’s Ryan Molitor played tight end in the game for the South, and Parkview-Albany’s Luke Schwengels was on the South’s defensive side as a linebacker.
