SOUTH WAYNE - The 13th annual Six Rivers All-Star Basketball Classic will be hosted at Juda High School on June 29, with the girls game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys game to follow at about 8 p.m.

There will also be a special 3-point shooting contest held in between the games.

All proceeds from the free-will admission and other fund-raising efforts during the night go directly to the American Family Children's Hospital.

The Six Rivers All-Star Classic was held for the first time in 2006. Retired Black Hawk boys basketball coach Jerry Mortimer designed the event and directed it until 2010. To date, the games have generated more than $17,000 in donations.

"I think it took a lot of planning from Mr. Mortimer to get things rolling," Black Hawk girls basketball coach and current Six Rivers All-Star Classic director Mike Flanagan said. "It's one of those things that could extinguish if someone did not pick up the ball and run with it. I assured him I would pick up the ball and keep it alive. The biggest reason to keep it going is for the donations we have made. I think it builds up the awareness and appreciation of the conference. It gives kids one more chance to compete and play. It's a pride thing. The Six Rivers East and West have been well represented statewide when the postseason rolls around."

The All-Star Classic features the top senior players from the Six Rivers Conference Western Division going head-to-head against the stand-outs from the Eastern Division in a game consisting of two 20-minute halves.
