MONROE - The first of three summer tennis tournaments,  sponsored by the Monroe Park and Recreation Department,  is slated for June 27-28.  This will be the 38th annual city singles tournament which is open to anyone.

The tournament features up to six brackets, but in recent years has run four because of numbers.

The brackets include Class A Mens and Womens, the championship flight;  Class B Mens and Womens, for intermediate players; and the 14 and Under Bracket for the youth.

The brackets will close after 16 players have entered to prevent playing more than two  matches in one day.

The entry fee is $10 for players 14-years-old and older and $5 for under 14 years.

The womens' and youth brackets will start Saturday, June 27, Saturday, at 8 a.m. at Recreation Park. The mens' brackets will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Recreation Park.  All final matches will be  played Sunday afternoon at Rec Park.

Tennis awards including trophies and T-Shirts will be awarded.  All tennis balls are furnished by the park.

A city doubles tournament will follow on July 18-19 and the mixed doubles on Aug. 8-9.

To register or for more information, call tournament director Jim Bartholf at 325-9402. The deadline to enter is at noon Friday, June 26.
