DARLINGTON - Consistency is the hallmark for developing golfers.

The Darlington-Cuba City girls golf team continued its rise with some steady performances.

The Redbirds (1-1) in dual matches defeated Mount Horeb by eight strokes, 205-213, on Tuesday at the Darlington Country Club.

Darlington-Cuba City coach Gary Ringen said it's the best score the Redbirds have shot as a team the past four years.

Cuba City junior Ali McCauley won medalist honors with a 9-over par 44. McCauley battled back after double bogeys on Nos. 2 and 8.

"She (McCauley) is playing very consistent," Ringen said.

Darlington sophomore Nellie Black continued a strong start to the season with a 47. Black had four holes she three-putted.

"That is a correctable situation," he said.

The difference in turning in a season-best score revolved around the emergence of No. 3-4 golfers. Darlington senior Dani Larson and freshman Shelby Poss both shot 57s.

"She (Poss) is improving and just starting to learn what competition is," Ringen said. "They will improve on that I'm sure, too."

The Redbirds' match against Lancaster scheduled for today has been postponed and hasn't been rescheduled. Ringen was surprised when Lancaster arrived a day early Tuesday morning for their match with the Redbirds.

"Somehow they had a miscommunication with Lancaster," he said.
