Redbirds hammer the Vanguards

MAZOMANIE - The Darlington football team's offense looked to be in midseason form in Week 2, rolling to a 54-7 win Friday over Wisconsin Heights.

Darlington (2-0) racked up 538 total yards, including 365 rushing yards.

Darlington senior Aaron Stauffacher rushed for 106 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns. Darlington junior quarterback Alex Erickson scored three touchdowns (two passing and one rushing) to lead the Redbirds. Erickson finished 12-of-19 passing for 173 yards.

Senior Trynton Schwartz caught six passes for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Belmont 29, Black Hawk 20

BELMONT - Black Hawk junior quarterback Michael Wolff and sophomore receiver Hayden Schliem did everything in their power to knock off Belmont on Friday night, but the Indians' running game was unstoppable.

Belmont's Jordan Farrey rushed for 206 yards on 31 carries and scored three touchdowns to lift the Indians.

Schliem had an 83-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the score at 14-14. Wolff completed 11 of 22 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns, including a clutch 73-yard TD pass to Schliem to cut the Indians' lead to 21-20 in the third quarter.

The Indians rushed for 401 yards, including a 77-yard TD run by Farrey. Black Hawk senior Cody Foster had 128 total yards (77 rushing, and five receptions for 51 yards receiving).

Black Hawk dropped to 1-1 and hosts Benton on Friday, Sept. 11.

Potosi 60, Pecatonica-Argyle 0

POTOSI - The Vikings had a hard time stopping Potosi's running attack.

Potosi's (2-0) Taylor Udelhofen rushed for 160 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the win over the Vikings. The Chieftains rushed for 386 yards.

Pecatonica-Argyle was limited to just 139 total yards. Pecatonica senior quarterback Jeremy Meudt was 7-for-12 passing for 84 yards with three interceptions.

The Vikings also were plagued by seven penalties for 60 yards.

Pecatonica-Argyle's Jared Johnson led the Vikings with 35 yards rushing on 11 carries. Ian Zimmerman caught four passes for 28 yards.
