DARLINGTON — The point leaders in all five classes didn’t change with just one week to go before the season championship at Lafayette County Speedway Aug. 3 when it held its annual Back to School Night.
The special event featured dozens of backpacks to be given away to attending children and the chance to ride around the track on a school bus to take part in a meet-and-greet with drivers.
Jeff Larson took the top spot ahead of Kenny Kostenbader in the modifieds class, with Derek Thompson coming in third and Mike Fryer fourth. Kostenbader leads the class in points on the season with 313, while Fryer is sitting in second at 297, followed by Larson (289) and Thompson (267).
In the late model class, Jason Robbins was first ahead of Jamie Pfieffer and Pat Quinn. Pfieffer leads the point standings with 334, followed by Robbins at 325 and then Steve Schueller at 276.
Tim Sorn extended his lead on the rest of the field in the sportmods. Sorn took first overall Friday, one spot ahead of Nick Schliem. Rod Cameron was third and Bob Silaggi took fourth. Sorn, with 317 points, is now ahead of Silaggi (306), Zach Mauer (295) and Kyle Hoffman (293) at the top of the standings.
Cameron Wahl won the four-cylinder race, beating out Eric Beau and Terry Edge Jr. Beau still leads the point standings at 316, with Brad Lamont (295) in second and Wahl (287) third.
In the trucks class, Wyatt Redfearn took home first place honors ahead of Tim Maurer and Scott Martie. Maurer is still the season leader in points at 327, with Martie (308), Derek McBee (244) and Jordan Lickes (217) trailing behind.
July 27 Results
Travis Denning won the modified class ahead of Ryan Deshaw and Cameron Kuxhouse. The speedway theme for the night was for Southwest Tech Night, which included INEX Legends.
In the late model race, Jason Robbins bested Jamie Pfieffer and Steve Schueller at the front of the pack. Jason Roth took first in the sportmods division, ahead of Scott Busch and Kyle Hoffman. Edge Jr. won the four-cylinder race, beating out Dakota Schroyer and Dylan Kuhl.
In the trucks class, Redfearn took top honors ahead of McBee and Tim Maurer.
