BLANCHARDVILLE - Trailing Barneveld two sets to one, the Pecatonica volleyball team dug deep and pulled off an improbable comeback to beat the Golden Eagles in five thrilling sets Thursday.
After dropping the first set 25-13, the Vikings (3-1, 1-1 Six Rivers East) rebounded to win the second set
25-18. The Eagles dominated the Vikings 25-10 in the third set. The Vikings answered back by topping the Eagles in the final two sets 25-23,
15-8.
When asked about the last time Pecatonica defeated Barneveld in volleyball, Pecatonica coach Tori Leonard was at a loss for words.
"It's been a long time," Leonard said. "Too long that we don't even remember. I think we learned a lot about ourselves tonight. For the first time in a long time, we didn't hang our heads when we were down 2-1. We kept fighting and after we won the fourth set we were going to go five. I think we showed that we can contend and compete with anyone in the conference."
Pecatonica senior Clara Moen had 10 kills and notched eight aces. Senior teammate Britt Miller had a team-high 11 blocks. Junior Liz Tisch dished out 21 assists and Sam Mabin added five digs.
