BLANCHARDVILLE - Solid play on both ends of the floor gave the Pecatonica girls basketball team a 47-29 win over Juda for their first victory of the season Tuesday night.

After their matchup in the previous week, Vikings coach Scott Carlson drew up some defensive changes prior to the game's start.

"We played them (Juda) last week, and we started in a zone and switched to a man defense later in the game," Carlson said. "I thought we played pretty well then, so tonight we started in a man-to-man, but then they (Juda) started to get hot."

The Panthers had the early advantage, and led 12-4 after the first.

"After seeing that, we made the switch back to a zone, and from then on we played great defense," Carlson said.

With the defense holding down its end, the Vikings offense was able to respond by penetrating the post. The result was Julia Meyer having her best game of the season, scoring a game-high 16 points. Senior Hannah Swenson, returning from a broken hand, scored 11 points for the Vikings.

Molly Marass had 15 points for Juda, while teammate Chelsea Burkhalter added 12 points.
